Is James Gunn’s Superman a Political Trojan Horse? Rumors Swirl About Musk-Like Lex Luthor and Ukraine Allegory

Is James Gunn’s Superman drawing political parallels to Ukraine and Elon Musk?

I’m not sure if you know this, but James Gunn — yes, James Gunn — has a movie coming out shortly. It’s about Superman, but the main takeaway here is that it’s by James Gunn. Anyway, the upcoming Superman film, directed by James Gunn and slated for release on July 11, 2025, has kicked its promotional efforts into high gear with new trailers, rumors, film clips, merchandise, and James Gunn almost everywhere you look.

One rumor in particular has stirred speculation about potential analogies to real-world figures and conflicts, particularly those involving a certain tech personality whose name rhymes with “Husk” and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine situation. These rumors, fueled by fan discussions on platforms like X, suggest that Gunn may be sneaking some subtle, real-world parallels into the film’s narrative.

Security Breach on Avengers: Doomsday Set, Fan Posts Viral TikTok Video Footage

Video footage from the Avengers Doomsday set made the rounds online this week after a fan snuck into the supposedly secure filming location.

Earlier this month, the Marvel Universe suffered its worst security breach in recent memory.  A man under the TikTok handle @TheyNeverSawItComing pulled his very own “Mission Impossible” and was able to breach the mighty Marvel machine by sneaking onto the set of Avengers: Doomsday at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England.

He then uploaded all of the unauthorized Avengers: Doomdday set video footage on TikTok, as one does.

Dragon Age Creator Slams BioWare Over Perceived Mass Effect Favoritism in BlueSky Firestorm

Sibling rivalry has been a part of the human condition since we were all living in caves hitting things with clubs (some of us still are!). This also apparently holds true at BioWare, particularly among its two divisions devoted to Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Per PC Gamer, David Gaider, the creator of Dragon Age and former lead writer at BioWare, has posted up a storm over on BlueSky about just how bad the internal conflicts got at BioWare between both development teams.

OPINION: Hasbro Keeps Losing the People Who Made it Great as Dungeons & Dragons Creative Director Resigns

I had previously written about Hasbro and its ability to kill golden gooses. No sooner had I finished that article than it looks like they’ve done so once more, this time to one of their most lucrative franchises – Dungeons & Dragons.

Per his own post on X, Chrisopher Perkins has announced that he will be retiring from his role as Creative Director at Wizards of the Coast, the subset of Hasbro Inc. that is responsible for the sprawling Dungeons & Dragons IP.

OPINION: What’s going on with Hasbro? It’s a Toy Company That Doesn’t Want to Make Toys

OPINION: What’s going on with Hasbro? It’s a Toy Company That Doesn’t Want to Make Toys

Per Hasbro’s CEO Chris Cocks, they have announced that as of 2025 they will be moving away from physical toys while focusing more on digital play (i.e. video games). Since that time we’ve paradoxically seen one of the largest toymakers in the world begin to license out their properties to other toymakers to produce.

I’m not the CEO of a multi-million dollar company, so it may not be my place to say, but as a toy collector I feel that this is a mis-step on the part of Hasbro and its CEO. At the same time, unfortunately I can understand why they feel forced to go this route, and it has to do with both the mistakes they have made as well as those of their partners.
