Sometimes the entertainment press can’t resist making a mountain out of a molehill. Case in point: Bella Ramsey appeared to joke about playing Spider-Man at an HBO Emmys event, and suddenly Variety and other outlets acted like Marvel Studios had a new stunning and brave casting announcement.
Is KPop Demon Hunters a girl boss movie? Well, yes, and also no. Certainly not in the way that’s been infuriating movie goers for years.
The domestic box office this past weekend brought more clarity to the shifting state of moviegoing. Horror reigned supreme, nostalgia held its ground, and Marvel stumbled yet again as its latest installment continued a steep decline.
James Gunn is apparently going to continue marketing himself as the face of the DC universe if the Peacemaker season 2 press tour is any indicator.
When Superman launched its marketing campaign, many fans were surprised to find the spotlight wasn’t on the Man of Steel. It wasn’t on David Corenswet, the new Superman, or Rachel Brosnahan, the new Lois Lane. The spotlight was on James Gunn. They see expansion into online media as a natural way to pick up the membership slack.
For the last week, the internet has been set ablaze with Avengers: Doomsday cast rumors. One day, Spider-Man is reportedly in the movie. The next, Hulk. Then, out of nowhere, outlets insist Steve Rogers is returning alongside Deadpool, Ironheart, and She-Hulk. Depending on which “scoop” you believe, Doomsday might contain every Marvel character that’s ever existed plus a few extras for good measure.
Marvel fans may want to keep their expectations in check when it comes to the Merc with a Mouth. Two of Hollywood’s top trade outlets — The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline — are publishing directly contradictory claims about whether Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Ana Nogueira, already a key player in DC Studios’ upcoming slate as the writer of Supergirl, has been chosen to write the next Wonder Woman movie.
