Guests hoping to see the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights return in 2026 will have to hope for another year. Walt Disney World has confirmed its holiday entertainment lineup, and the longtime seasonal lighting display is not included.
Disney released details about its 2026 holiday offerings during its annual Halfway to the Holidays announcement. The lineup includes returning entertainment, seasonal décor, special ticketed events, and attraction overlays. However, the announcement does not include the physical Dream Lights display that last appeared on Cinderella Castle during the 2019 holiday season.
Instead, Magic Kingdom will once again present Frozen Holiday Surprise. The nighttime castle show features Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and the Snowgies before Cinderella Castle transforms with Christmas-themed projection effects. The presentation concludes with the castle covered in animated holiday imagery rather than the physical net of LED lights used for the former Dream Lights display.
A Holiday Tradition That Has Yet to Return
The Dream Lights debuted in 2007. Disney installed thousands of white LED lights across Cinderella Castle to create the appearance of snow-covered icicles. The display became a familiar part of Magic Kingdom’s holiday season for more than a decade.
The lights last appeared during the 2019 holidays. They did not return in 2020 after Walt Disney World adjusted its entertainment offerings during the lockdowns. Several seasonal experiences were suspended that year as Disney modified park operations.

Although many holiday offerings have returned, the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights remain absent for the 2026 holiday season.
Castle Repaint Raised Expectations
Earlier this year, Disney completed work to return Cinderella Castle to a color palette that more closely resembles its traditional appearance. The project reversed many of the changes made before Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
After the repaint was completed, some fans hoped Disney might also bring back the Dream Lights for 2026. The company’s holiday announcement, however, confirmed that the display will not return this year.

Guests visiting Magic Kingdom this holiday season should instead expect Christmas-themed projection effects on Cinderella Castle during Frozen Holiday Surprise, continuing the projection-based presentation Disney has used in recent years.
Disney Has Not Permanently Retired the Display
Although the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights are not returning in 2026, Disney has not announced that the display has been permanently discontinued.
When Disney decides to retire a long-running holiday tradition for good, the company has shown that it is willing to say so publicly. Just last week, for example, Disney confirmed to WDWNT that the iconic Grand Floridian gingerbread house has been permanently retired after skipping the 2025 season due to the resort’s lobby renovation. Rather than bringing it back, Disney will replace it with smaller holiday displays throughout the resort.

Disney has made no similar announcement regarding the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights. While the beloved display remains absent from this year’s holiday lineup, the company has stopped short of declaring that it is gone forever.
For now, fans hoping to see the thousands of sparkling LED lights return to Cinderella Castle still have reason to hold out hope that Disney could bring back the holiday tradition in a future season.
Holiday Entertainment Returns Across Walt Disney World
The absence of the Dream Lights comes as Disney prepares to bring back many other holiday offerings. Park fans can instead the Christmas-colored projections to lights up Cinderella Castle

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will return to Magic Kingdom alongside seasonal entertainment, festive décor, holiday food, and attraction overlays throughout Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney has scheduled the 2026 holiday season to run from November 13, 2026, through January 6, 2027.
Guests visiting Magic Kingdom during that period will find Cinderella Castle serving as the centerpiece of the holiday celebration once again. This year, however, the castle’s seasonal appearance will rely on Christmas-themed projection effects rather than the physical Dream Lights display.
