The Indiana Jones Stunt Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been temporarily altered following a serious on-stage incident that resulted in a Cast Member injury, prompting a safety review and immediate operational changes. The long-running live stunt production, officially known as Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, experienced a malfunction involving one of its most recognizable mechanical effects during a performance earlier this week.

The incident occurred during the opening sequence of the show when a large boulder prop became dislodged from its track. The prop, which is designed to roll in a controlled path as part of the stunt demonstration, unexpectedly deviated from its guide system, creating a potentially dangerous situation for both performers and guests.
What Happened During the Indiana Jones Stunt Show Incident
During the performance, a Cast Member intervened to stop the runaway boulder before it could reach the audience area. In doing so, the Cast Member, later identified as Robert, a former stunt performer, was injured. Disney confirmed that the Cast Member received immediate medical attention and is now recovering.
Importantly, no guests were injured during the incident.

The boulder effect is a core visual element of the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, used to demonstrate how practical effects and stunt coordination bring cinematic action to life. While the show is carefully choreographed and routinely inspected, the live nature of stunt performances means even well-maintained effects can pose risks when something goes wrong.
Disney Confirms Temporary Change Following Safety Review
Disney addressed the incident in an official statement provided to WDW MAGIC, confirming that changes to the show are already underway as part of an internal safety review.
“We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.”

The statement confirms that the boulder effect involved in the incident will be modified or adjusted while Disney’s safety team completes its review. At this time, Disney has not announced a full closure of the attraction.
Show Continues With Adjustments
Despite the incident, Disney has indicated that performances of the Indiana Jones stunt show are expected to continue with adjustments in place. This suggests guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios may still be able to experience the show, albeit with changes to at least one major stunt sequence.

The Indiana Jones stunt show has been a staple of the park for more than three decades, debuting in 1989 and remaining one of the few large-scale live stunt productions still operating at Walt Disney World. The show is known for its explosions, fight choreography, moving vehicles, and mechanical effects, all designed to showcase how classic action films were made.
A Reminder of the Risks Behind Live Stunt Performances
While the Indiana Jones stunt show has built a strong safety record over its long run, the incident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks involved in live stunt entertainment. Unlike screen-based attractions, live shows rely on precise timing, mechanical reliability, and human performance — leaving little margin for error when something malfunctions.
Disney has not released additional details about the specific cause of the boulder malfunction, nor has it provided a timeline for when the full effect may return. Any further updates are expected to follow the completion of the company’s internal review.

For now, guests planning to attend the Indiana Jones stunt show should be aware that the experience may differ slightly from past performances as safety adjustments remain in place.
