Images from the new book Adventure Has a New Name – The Making of Disney Adventure World have been shared on social media. The 450-page publication documents the retheming of Disneyland Paris and includes a range of behind-the-scenes material from the project.

A user on X who received an advance copy posted images showing concept art and development details related to an upcoming Lion King-themed attraction. The project is based on the original animated film, which follows the story of Simba. The materials depict a Pride Rock structure and reference a mountain reaching approximately 37 meters in height, along with other elements tied to the attraction’s design.

First Look at the Attraction

Disney Adventure World opened March 29. In early February, a map for the second theme park at Disneyland Paris was released, but it did not include the Lion King-themed land previously announced at the D23 Expo. Several other planned additions were also not shown at the time.

Aside from a limited amount of previously released concept art, the newly shared material provides an early look at the planned attraction. The images include both illustrations and scale models of the project. A caption in the book, presented in English and French, describes the setting as “an African savannah on the outskirts of Paris.”

Additional images show teams working on early ride prototypes. The designs point to Tanzanian-inspired architecture, incorporating elements such as thatch and stone. The central feature of the Lion King attraction is expected to be a large-scale recreation of Pride Rock. A model first presented at the D23 Expo showed a log flume-style ride emerging from the structure, confirming a water-based component.

While none of the U.S. Disney parks currently feature a fully immersive Lion King-themed land, the concept has drawn comparisons to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The attraction is expected to combine indoor and outdoor elements, including interior scenes featuring Audio-Animatronics. Recently shared images show work in progress on these figures, including characters such as Scar and the hyenas—Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed.

What Comes Next

While the first detailed look at the Lion King-themed land is drawing attention, no opening date has been announced. Rather than repurposing an existing attraction, the Pride Rock centerpiece is being constructed from the ground up. The park’s second gate itself was developed on previously unused land surrounding Adventure Bay, the central lake that anchors the area.

For now, visitors to Disney Adventure World can explore other themed environments, including Avengers Campus and World of Frozen. The materials released so far indicate that the Lion King project is being developed using a similar design approach to other recent additions, with an emphasis on integrating environment, architecture, and character elements.

Reaction to the images shared online suggests continued interest in the project among theme park audiences. While individual attractions can function as standalone experiences, developments of this scale typically aim to create a more cohesive setting. This approach reflects a broader design philosophy associated with Walt Disney, in which themed environments are intended to place visitors within the world of a story rather than simply present it.
