If you are unfamiliar with Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] it is an anime produced by Ufotable and based on the visual novel Fate/stay night by Type-Moon. The anime follows Shirou Emiya and his servant Saber as he partakes in the Fifth Holy Grail War and teams up with Rin Tohsaka and her Servant Archer.

A Holy Grail War is a tournament which sees seven Masters and their Servants fight to claim the Holy Grail, which grants the winner a wish. Servants are historical figures that the Masters summon to aid them in fighting in the war. The series takes significant liberties with these figures. For example, Emiya’s Servant Saber is revealed to Artoria Pendragon, a gender-swapped version of the legendary King Arthur.

The series features a number of intriguing characters including Illyasviel von Einzbern, Gilgamesh, Heracles, Medusa, Medea, Sasaki Kojirou, Cú Chulainn, and more.

The most obvious choices for possible playable characters in Honkai: Star Rail would be Emiya, Rin Tohsaka, Archer, and Saber.

It will also be interesting to see what HoYoverse will cook up if they intend to have the Trailblazer and his companions travel to a planet where the Holy Grail War is taking place, and if it will follow the original story or possible create an alternative story with the characters. It’s not hard to imagine the Trailblazer, Honkai: Star Rail’s protagonist, becoming one of the Masters in the Holy Grail War and getting his own Servant.

Regardless, this is an exciting announcement with a ton of potential.
