Rob Liefeld is turning up the heat on Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. The Deadpool co-creator has publicly urged Marvel to move on from Feige following this weekend’s disappointing performance of Captain America: Brave New World, marking another escalation in his ongoing feud with the studio.
Liefeld took to social media to voice his frustration after seeing Captain America suffer a steep 82.4% Friday to Friday drop in its second weekend at the domestic box office. The film would go on to see a 71.8% decline from it’s holiday weekend opening.

“Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent,” Liefeld wrote on X, responding to a thread discussing the film’s sharp decline.
This comes on the heels of Liefeld’s decision to officially sever ties with Marvel after years of what he describes as dismissive treatment toward comic creators.
“Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators well. That is my personal experience,” Liefeld said previously, pointing to his exclusion from events like the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere.

Captain America: Brave New World has so far grossed $289.4 million globally but has been met with a lukewarm reception, earning just a 49% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B- Cinemascore, the lowest in MCU history. Its historic second-weekend drop has only intensified scrutiny on Feige’s leadership.
Former X-Men ‘97 showrunner Beau DeMayo echoed Liefeld’s sentiments, shedding light on deeper issues within Marvel Studios.
It’s a cultural problem at the studio all the way to the top. Like look at #xmen97. I had a locked 9 epsiode awesome season 2 done for them in animatic form in March 2024. It was ready to be animated, and would’ve undergone the same polish in post that Season 1 did (where I fine… https://t.co/3rfOeJb5dj

“It’s a cultural problem at the studio all the way to the top,” DeMayo wrote on X, referring to systemic issues that, in his view, are undermining the creative process at Marvel.
DeMayo, who was dismissed from X-Men ‘97 before its premiere, has been vocal about his own rocky experience with Marvel. His critique lines up with Liefeld’s, suggesting that Marvel’s challenges go beyond a few flopped films and extend to how the company handles its creative talent.
Both Liefeld and DeMayo’s comments point to a growing divide between Marvel Studios and the creators who helped build its empire. Liefeld has consistently criticized Marvel for sidelining comic book legends, while DeMayo has exposed what he sees as a toxic work culture that stifles creativity.

As Marvel grapples with underwhelming box office results and internal upheaval, the calls for change from high-profile figures like Liefeld and DeMayo against Feige and the Marvel studio culture are getting harder to ignore. With Deadpool & Wolverine on the horizon and continued pressure from fans and creators alike, all eyes are now on Kevin Feige and how he plans to steer Marvel out of its current slump.

Don’t stop with Feige
