The call to Cancel Netflix is gaining steam, and it’s no longer just about one cartoon. What began as outrage over Dead End: Paranormal Park — a Netflix kids’ series with a main character who identifies with a gender that differs from birth and is rated for children as young as seven — has snowballed into a larger campaign against the streaming giant’s entire kids and family slate.

Parents and critics argue that Netflix is packaging divisive sexual content and gender ideology into programming marketed to young children. And thanks to the involvement of Elon Musk, the push to cancel Netflix has become a full-blown cultural moment.

How It Started: Paranormal Park and the TV-Y7 Debate

The controversy ignited when clips of Dead End: Paranormal Park resurfaced online in September. The show, adapted from Hamish Steele’s DeadEndia graphic novels, follows teens Barney and Norma as they battle supernatural creatures in a haunted amusement park. Barney, the main character, is openly nonbinary.

While the show premiered in 2022 and was cancelled after two seasons in 2023, it remains available on Netflix under the “Kids & Family” category with a TV-Y7 rating. That classification means it’s deemed appropriate for children ages seven and older, a fact that fueled anger when social media accounts like Libs of TikTok highlighted the rating alongside clips of Barney’s identity-focused dialogue.

For critics, the issue wasn’t just the existence of representation — it was that Netflix classified it as content suitable for children.

Elon Musk Steps Into the Fight

The backlash grew exponentially when Elon Musk personally joined the chorus of parents and critics calling to Cancel Netflix. Musk reposted a viral clip and wrote:

“Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”

He later confirmed that he had cancelled his own subscription, replying “same” to another user who had shared a cancellation screenshot. With Musk’s endorsement, what might have remained a niche controversy suddenly reached millions of people and began trending on X.

Musk’s involvement also put Wall Street on notice. Within a day of his comments, Netflix stock slipped over 2%, raising questions about whether the backlash could translate into measurable financial pressure on the company.

More Flashpoints Across Netflix’s Kids Lineup

Since Musk’s post, parents have continued to share examples of other shows on Netflix that they say justify cancelling the service:

Cocomelon Lane

In a recent episode of the popular preschool spinoff, a young boy dresses in a princess crown and skirk, dancing for his two dads. Critics point to this as an example of gender and sexuality being injected into programming for toddlers.

Transformers: EarthSpark

In the animated Transformers series available on Netflix, a new Autobot character is introduced using they/them pronouns, telling Optimus Prime that they do not feel male or female. The scene has been praised by progressive outlets but blasted by parents as ideological indoctrination for children.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

The dinosaur adventure series includes a same-sex relationship between two young female characters, culminating in a kiss. While Hollywood media praised the move as “historic representation,” critics call it yet another case of Netflix weaving PRIDE sexuality into shows aimed at children.

Strawberry Shortcake and the Beast of Berry Bog

In this Netflix release, boys are shown crossdressing as girls as a form of “self-expression.” Unlike other series that carry a 7+ or PG tag, this one is promoted as suitable for children of all ages. That age rating has become a lightning rod for parents, who argue it crosses an even clearer line by placing gender identity themes into content marketed for preschoolers.

Each example has been shared widely on X with the Cancel Netflix hashtag, compounding the original outrage over Paranormal Park.

Billions Lost in Market Value

The campaign has picked up enough steam that Netflix’s financial performance is under scrutiny. Over the past month, Netflix stock has dropped by $52.40 per share, or 4.32%, representing billions in lost valuation.

Netflix Stock

As of October 2nd, Netflix shares sit at $1,161.71, down from highs earlier in September before the backlash gained momentum. While analysts caution that stock movement is influenced by many factors, the timing of the decline alongside Musk’s cancellation announcement has been hard to ignore.

Representation or Indoctrination?

Supporters of Netflix’s programming argue that including diverse families, same-sex couples, and gender-focused characters helps children feel seen and creates a more inclusive media environment.

But critics counter that age-appropriate boundaries matter — and that programming rated TV-Y7 or marketed under the preschool banner should not be introducing children to gender theory, sexuality, or pronoun debates.

For parents leading the Cancel Netflix campaign, this is not about limiting adult entertainment options. It’s about drawing a line when it comes to shows aimed squarely at children.

The Road Ahead

The central question is whether Netflix will ignore the controversy or take steps to adjust its kids’ content strategy. Will the streaming giant double down on including progressive PRIDE themes in children’s programming? Or will pressure from parents, investors, and Elon Musk himself force executives to reconsider how they approach the youngest members of their audience?

One thing is certain: the movement to Cancel Netflix is not slowing down. What started with a single show has become a broader critique of the company’s values, business strategy, and role in shaping what children see.

And with Musk at the center amplifying the outrage, this may be the biggest cultural pushback Netflix has faced since its early days in the streaming wars.

Mad Lemming

Ever since peaking in June of this year, it’s been expected for their stock to start “correcting.” This is abrupt, and given how non-woke boycotts can be very persistent it’s very likely the company won’t recover, but we’re still talking about a disgustingly wealthy company. If their stock price continues to plummet for another month, then they might–MIGHT–actually drop this nonsense. Or they’ll go the Disney route and just not advertise it while waiting for things to blow over.

If the whole Cuties episode told us anything all this will do is slow subscriber gain for Netflix a little and causing a small temporary dip in the stock value. Netflix stock is trading higher today then before the Cuties thing. There is not enough momentum and I dont think there will be, as normies just dont care.
