SeaWorld Orlando has announced the death of Katina, a well-known killer whale at the theme park, marking the end of a life that spanned five decades and left a lasting impact on guests, trainers, and the park’s marine animal care teams. The SeaWorld killer whale death was confirmed by the park on Sunday, December 21, 2025, following a period of declining health.

Katina was 50 years old at the time of her death.

SeaWorld Confirms Katina’s Declining Health

According to SeaWorld Orlando, Katina’s condition had worsened over the past several weeks as she entered her geriatric years. Animal care specialists and veterinary teams reportedly monitored her health around the clock, ultimately prioritizing her comfort and welfare as her condition deteriorated.

SeaWorld stated that despite extensive care and medical oversight, Katina passed away following this decline. The park did not release additional medical specifics beyond confirming the extended period of health concerns leading up to her death.

SeaWorld described Katina as having a “big personality,” explaining that she was particularly known for sticking her tongue out and for enjoying high-speed swims that created a cyclone of water in her habitat.

The park also credited Katina with helping inspire millions of guests to learn more about killer whales and marine life during her decades at SeaWorld Orlando.

SeaWorld’s Public Statement on Katina’s Passing

In a message shared on SeaWorld Orlando’s official Facebook page, the park acknowledged the emotional toll of the loss on staff and supporters.

“This is an incredibly difficult time for those who knew and loved Katina,” SeaWorld said in the statement.
