Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been “livin’ in paradise” as January 21, 2025 marked the digital release of the theatrical hit Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, much bigger news has surfaced as a March 19, 2027 release date has been announced for Sonic The Hedgehog 4. This will be the fourth entry in the beloved film series; based on the video games which debuted on the Sega Genesis back in 1991.

First reported by Deadline, the announcement also included the reveal of the official logo for the movie, which provides plenty of pink in the design to signify the silver screen debut of one of the more popular Sonic characters, Amy Rose.
Sonic’s pink-furred fan-girl, Amy, made her game debut in Sonic CD in 1993. But not all 90s kids were able to experience her first appearance due to the game being released exclusively on a CD attachment that cost more than the Sega Genesis system itself. Despite this, the character went on to prove herself in other games throughout the coming decades, most notably the first Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast. With her surprise appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 only fueling hype for the fourth entry, many Sonic fans are wondering what’s in store for the next adventure.

Speaking of fuel, there was another character from Sonic CD who made a big appearance following the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. That was the villainous robotic doppelganger, Metal Sonic, who seems to be slated for a major villain role in the franchise. Jim Carrey has also indicated that he’s interested in returning as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.
The March 19, 2027 release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 provides a far easier road toward box-office success as it will not be competing with the Walt Disney Company. Disney’s Lion King prequel Mufasa released at the same time as Sonic 3 in the U.S. and only days apart internationally.

Due to Disney’s lean on the film industry, Sonic 3 missed out on IMAX screens across the country. Despite the fierce competition, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is still looking to win the overall domestic battle at the box office. If Sonic can keep his momentum going into early 2027, Paramount should have a surefire hit.
