Audiences appear eager for more Spider-Man. The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already hit a major milestone. In an exclusive report from Variety, the first look, which was released on March 17, hit 1 billion views in its first four days online. That’s not just hype—that’s historic.
While many of last year’s MCU films struggled to capture an audience, Spider-Man could bring a brand new day to the franchise.
Record-Breaking Trailer Performance
The data comes from WaveMetrix, an entertainment and social media tracking service. Its report shows that in just eight hours, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer reached 373 million views worldwide. By the 24-hour mark, it had climbed to 718.6 million views—a new record.

The previous record holder, Deadpool & Wolverine, drew 365 million views in the same timeframe, though it benefited from launching during the Super Bowl. By comparison, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer debuted on a Wednesday morning in mid-March. Notably, before Deadpool & Wolverine took the crown, the record was held by Sony’s previous Spider-Man installment, No Way Home, which reached 355.5 million views in its first 24 hours.
Spider-Man: No Way Home went on to gross $1.9 billion at the post-lockdown global box office. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer hitting a billion views in just four days, the web-slinger may be poised for another massive hit.

That’s not all. Within its first 24 hours, it set a new record for the biggest trailer launch of all time, surpassing the previous benchmark held by Grand Theft Auto VI, which reached 475 million views worldwide. Widely considered the most anticipated video game of all time, GTA VI had been building anticipation far longer than Brand New Day.
Skepticism remains over the November 19, 2026 release of the frequently delayed game. By contrast, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is something audiences are already counting on.
What the Trailer Shows
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer may be drawing repeat views in part because it doesn’t reveal too much. Fans hoping for a first official look at Sadie Sink’s new character in costume may have to wait for the next trailer. Even a brief glimpse in the quick cuts will send fans hunting.

Overall, the film’s plot remains largely under wraps. The trailer does confirm that Peter Parker/Spider-Man is living in a world that has forgotten who he is. It also establishes that Frank Castle/The Punisher will appear, seemingly in an adversarial role. Bruce Banner is shown as well, though his alter ego, the Hulk, appears to be saved for future trailers—or the film itself.
Implications for the MCU and Box Office
Whether or not the 1 billion views on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer translate into box office success remains to be seen. However, it clearly signals strong audience interest. While the character is still officially owned by Sony, he is licensed to Disney for use in the MCU.

The events of this film may not directly set up December’s Avengers: Doomsday—and Tom Holland is not confirmed for the film—but as part of the MCU, a successful Spider-Man could drive excitement for adjacent releases and boost engagement with superhero films across the board.

I’m hearing discouraging analysis of this trailer / movie, from YouTubers I trust. I skipped through the trailer myself, but, being an old skool grognard, I expected to despise it anyway.
It’s sad, but normies will continue to consume slop.
