While many box office watchers have debated the long-term performance of James Gunn’s Superman, new reporting suggests the final numbers may be slightly lower than previously believed. Revised worldwide totals on Box Office Mojo now show a roughly $6 million decrease, bringing the film’s global gross to about $618.7 million.

For a film meant to launch an entirely new cinematic universe, even small adjustments can reignite questions about whether the reboot met expectations. Superman was positioned as the first chapter in DC Studios’ long-term storytelling strategy, making its financial performance an early indicator of how audiences might respond to the studio’s new direction.
Totals and Timing
According to the latest figures, Superman earned roughly $354.2 million domestically and $264.5 million internationally. It’s important to note that such adjustments are routine in post-theatrical accounting and usually reflect delayed reporting rather than lost revenue. Currency conversions and finalized reports from overseas markets can also shift totals slightly once a film’s theatrical run concludes.

Even before the revision, the film’s overall performance had already become a talking point within the industry. Recently, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos referenced the film while speaking under oath before Congress, citing it as an example of a movie whose theatrical window was shortened following underperformance.
Still, the timing of the revised totals is raising questions among some industry watchers. The renewed scrutiny comes at a particularly sensitive moment for DC Studios. Warner Bros., the studio behind DC Studios, was recently acquired by Paramount. Ahead of those developments, DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director James Gunn had already questioned whether his long-term role leading the studio was sustainable. Rumors have circulated that a shift in corporate leadership could ultimately reshape the direction of the DC Universe.

Gunn was also absent from a recent leadership meeting with Paramount president David Ellison. While the director was reportedly on location preparing for his Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, the optics underscore how much is currently in flux around DC Studios’ future.
With the DCU scheduled for rapid expansion with this summer’s Supergirl film and the Lanterns television series, the franchise’s immediate future is already taking shape. Whether Superman’s adjusted international box office totals signal an acceptable foundation—or a more uncertain starting point—remains an open question.
Global Consequences
In raw financial terms, the roughly $6 million adjustment to Superman’s worldwide total is relatively small for a blockbuster that grossed more than $600 million globally. Changes of that scale are not unusual once international reporting is finalized and accounting reconciliations are completed.

However, the revision arrives at a moment when every data point tied to the film is being closely examined. As the first theatrical entry in the new DC Universe, Superman was never just another superhero release. It was positioned as the foundation upon which DC Studios would rebuild its cinematic brand.
Domestic strength can generate momentum, but international audiences often determine whether a film becomes the foundation of a long-term cinematic universe. If Superman ultimately failed to break out globally, DC Studios leadership—and especially Gunn, who wrote and directed the film—may soon face difficult questions about how the DCU’s first chapter resonated with audiences around the world.

Supergirl is on track to be very disappointing. If her male analog failed, despite massive name recognition and excitement for the movie’s release to pump up early numbers, there’s little chance the female version is going to inspire a record box office.
Someone show James Gunn to the door. Like Supergirl, he’s probably been drunk since Suicide Squad and DC doesn’t need any more people who don’t respect the core source material or a version of material that denigrates/deconstructs the hero.
Paramount should deduct $1b from their WB bid for every $10m lost against the production + marketing budget, measured by box office during first run.
Indeed. And, too add, these girl-boss movies, I reckon, are funded by imaginably rich globalists. Even if they flop, the globalists know that they will still manage to pervert enough kids to meet their NWO ends.

All Gunn deserves is failure.
“worldwide totals on Box Office Mojo… bringing the film’s global gross to about $618.7 million.”
And, we may safely assume that the REAL numbers are lower still. The Media, and corrupt system in general, can’t resist lying, here, with yet more fake statistics.
Anyhoo, this is a complete disaster for Gunn. Note, Gunn’s original Guardians Galaxy was allegedly significantly inspired by a screenplay by some chick who got no credit.
I’m not saying that the chick’s screenplay was great, but she came up with ideas that Gunn allegedly took credit for.
