In an apparent act of retaliation against the notorious Sweet Baby Inc detected list, an allegedly pro-DEI Steam curator list has been created, and it’s called “Sweet Baby Inc. Blessed.”

The list is divided into two sections: one for praising and promoting select titles, and the second for disparaging others. The author judges these games primarily on their politics, although they do make the odd exception here and there.

As of this writing, the curator list has been publicly available for nearly one year, though one can’t be blamed for not knowing, as it’s only garnered a following of 896 members throughout its lifetime.

The Case for DEI, According to Sweet Baby Inc. Blessed

Sweet Baby Inc. Blessed focuses on providing partisan commentary, mostly labeling games with “Based,” “DEI Detected,” and “Sweet Baby Inc. involved,” without explaining how these projects have been “blessed,” or made better. Very few reviews go beyond this, and when they do, they still aren’t very useful, so it all tends to read something like this.

“Woke = good!” or, “not woke, bad!”

Interestingly, the author actually broke the trend of supporting pro-DEI developers by discouraging readers from playing Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League; which is yet another Sweet Baby Inc. game which is remembered for ruining one of gaming’s most beloved franchises.

This negative review doesn’t just stem from typical public criticisms though, instead, it focuses on the studio’s decision to make it a Game as a Service.

“Sweet Baby Inc. Involved. Proof on their website. But **** Warner Bros. for making this game a GaaS,” the curator said.

Misrepresentation From the Curator

In addition to its largely intangible labels, the author has occasionally resorted to distorting past controversies around multiple games they included.

The curator left a positive review on Crime Boss: Rockay City.

“Based for understanding basic PR and dropping partnerships with problematic individuals.”

This is most likely referring to the studio removing a vtuber known as Kirsche from its partner program after Vice made harsh allegations against her. However, these allegations were quickly disputed by many online, and all articles related to the streamer were eventually removed from the outlet’s website.

The curator also included a positive review on the indie horror game known as Mouthwashing.

“Based game that tackles serious subject matter, despite the anti-woke crowd trying to harrass the developers because they called out folks for making s***ally explicit artwork of a SA victim.”

Again, the curator chose to flagrantly misrepresent the controversy, as opposed to expressing a reasonable argument for their alleged cause.

Between its outright distortions of public feuds and the general lack of effort in most of its reviews, the Sweet Baby Inc. Blessed list has raised some eyebrows.

The Curator Might be Trolling

As is the case with most Steam curator lists, information around its author is hazy at best, leading some to speculate on potential motives.

A few voices online, such as Smash JT, have opined that the whole project could actually be an elaborate ruse, that its goal is the same as the original DEI Detected project, just working in the opposite direction.

“This is hysterical, this is actually pointing out games that I didn’t even know to avoid.” the YouTuber joked, after reading the curator’s positive review on an upcoming life-sim known as “Sally,” which it praised for being featured on the Weird Ghosts website.

The theory that the list is merely satirical stems from a simple premise: Many of the list’s recommendations are widely perceived as being downright terrible.

The curator suggests such infamous games as Spider-Man 2, AvowedLife Is Strange: Double Exposure, and, perhaps most humorously of all, Dustborn, which has a 90% negative user score on Metacritic.

In one of its more petty reviews, the curator labeled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade as “Based because it annoyed DEI-detected.”

Raging Against the Machine

All of this is in stark contrast to the original curator list from DEIDetected, which highlights clearly articulated political bias and studio policies which the author finds distasteful.

CharlieTweetsDetected

The list also distinguishes itself from the more recent CharlieTweetsDetected curator, which is dedicated to exposing violent political rhetoric from developers, regardless of ideological affiliation.

Whether one agrees with those authors or not, they at least made tangible arguments.
