For years, Taylor Swift has seemed untouchable — a cultural force whose brand and popularity transcended music charts, box office numbers, and even criticism itself. But new polling data suggests that the façade of invincibility may be cracking, and notably, it began before the most recent wave of controversy tied her directly to Blake Lively’s ongoing legal drama.
According to new data highlighted by the New York Post, Taylor Swift’s popularity has already been sliding — and the subsequent release of controversial text messages has only intensified scrutiny around the pop star and those orbiting her.
Taylor Swift Popularity Drops Before Texts Go Public
The New York Post reports that the decline in Swift’s public standing didn’t begin with the courtroom revelations. Polling data shows her popularity was already slipping before any of the private messages involving Blake Lively became public.
According to YouGov tracking conducted earlier this month, Swift’s favorability rating fell sharply compared to the same period last year. The drop — from the mid-50s to the mid-40s — represents a notable erosion for an artist long considered nearly immune to reputational damage.

While her overall name recognition remains virtually universal, the numbers suggest a growing disconnect between familiarity and approval. In other words, the controversy did not create the downturn — it collided with momentum that was already moving in the wrong direction.
That represents a significant drop for an artist who has spent the better part of a decade enjoying near-universal cultural approval. While Swift’s name recognition remains sky-high, the polling suggests that familiarity no longer guarantees favorability.
The Text Messages That Changed the Conversation
Two weeks after that poll was conducted, Swift found herself pulled directly into Lively’s legal battle with actor and filmmaker Justin Baldoni.
Text messages between Swift and Lively were shared publicly in court during the trial.

One particular message attributed to Swift drew immediate backlash:
“I think this b—h knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin,” she reportedly said to Lively.
Another message showed Swift praising Lively after Baldoni was dropped by his agency.
“You won. You did it. And you … helped so many people who won’t have to go through this again,” she said.

While the New York Post does not editorialize on the content of the texts, their publication placed Swift firmly inside a legal dispute she was not formally party to — a development that appears to have amplified negative sentiment already forming among portions of the public.
Swift Reportedly “Struggling” With the Fallout
According to comments attributed to an anonymous source speaking to Us Weekly, Swift’s emotional response to the leak has been ongoing.
“It’s honestly been really hard for Taylor,” the source admitted. “Having her texts out there made her feel exposed and kind of violated, like, something private suddenly wasn’t hers anymore. That doesn’t sit well with her.”

Rumors back in June 2025 claimed Swift had since “ghosted” Lively, despite Lively’s “groveling” attempts at apology.
“Taylor hasn’t responded to any of Blake’s pleas, an insider reported. “She’s ignored all her groveling excuses.
The source went on to say, “Taylor obviously still means so much to Blake, but Taylor’s totally done with her and as of right now, no requests will mend their bond as far as she’s concerned.”

While Swift retains massive brand recognition — the report notes she still holds a 97.6% name recognition rating — the erosion of goodwill may be more damaging in the long term than any single controversy.
Blake Lively’s Legal Battle Leaves Burn Marks
Though Swift has not been accused of wrongdoing, the broader picture painted by this situation is one of reputational collateral damage. Lively’s lawsuit has already claimed professional casualties, and the public release of private communications has widened the blast radius.
Those burn marks are not limited to Swift.
Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool Scramble
Outside the New York Post’s reporting, industry observers have noted increasing pressure on Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s husband, who has reportedly been seeking to fast-track Deadpool 4 with Disney amid the growing controversy.

Reynolds was also scorched by a series of texts uncovered in the trial that shows him in an unfavorable light.
“I’m super frustrated because this is a moment in which Blake should be celebrating,” he said. “She made this unbelievable win happen. She WILLED this weekend into reality. Baldoni and these other buckets of dumb-dumb-juice should be acknowledging the speculation and gossip themselves. They should be jumping in front of it in the most full throated, unqualified way. Now.”
“I’d put Blake’s reputation on trial any day of the week. She’s worked with … dozens of other mercurial, and abusive people. In her experience (and mine) nobody has ever reached the empyrean heights of vile the way Justin Baldoni has. His complete lack of not only remorse but self-preservation is a character study in malignant, lazy-lidded stupidity and darkness.”

Baldoni’s legal team has pointed to these messages as evidence that Reynolds and Lively were actively leveraging their substantial influence within the industry against Baldoni.
Once the reliable face of a bulletproof franchise, Reynolds now finds himself indirectly tied to a legal saga that has already damaged multiple reputations — a scenario no A-list star welcomes.
A Rare Moment of Vulnerability for a Pop Titan
Taken together, the polling data, leaked texts, and surrounding legal chaos mark one of the rare moments where the cultural dominance and popularity of Taylor Swift appears genuinely vulnerable.
Her popularity didn’t collapse overnight — it slipped quietly, then collided head-on with a controversy that made ignoring the trend impossible.
Whether this proves to be a temporary dip or the beginning of a longer recalibration remains to be seen. But the ripple effects from Blake Lively’s legal battle continue to spread in unpredictable ways.

I was neutral on this childless wretch until she campaigned for Kamala. Freaking Kamala. Now, I abhor this shrew. Middle aged and acting like a teenage whore. Her latest album: childish, slutty lyrics. Pathetic bitch.
I never thought Taylor Swift was anything but bland, talentless garbage.
I would not care about that story of one of the key aspects was not an accusation of sexual misconduct.
It is one of the saddest thing in our society that women can simply destroy a man’s life with this weapon
just because they want to hurt him rather than because it really happened.
I have no respect to male feminists, they are just one of the many plagues of our society.
But using this accusation against him to overpower him in their dispute, it is pure evil,
and very telling since her besty is Heard. Yes, I can imagine that she is really angry with him.
They were pulling the blanket the entire time that movie was being made. She criticized him
for doing countless reshoots of the scenes making it excruciating to very late for days.
He also accused her of taking control over everything including even small details.
Two horrible people found each other. But using a weapon which is almost impossible to
defend against in our society, it
is just a lot mor eevil.
