Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to deliver a blockbuster opening weekend. However, star Tom Holland does not plan to play the wall-crawler forever. In fact, the actor enthusiastically claims there is already a plan for him to pass the Spider-Man mantle to another character.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland revealed that discussions about introducing his successor have been underway since Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor suggested that the proposed transition is more than a vague idea.

“Oh yeah, there’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it’s laid out,” Holland said.

Holland Has a Clear Vision for Spider-Man

Although the details may evolve, Holland believes he knows how he wants his time as Peter Parker to conclude.

“It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision [for] the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting,” he continued. “I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it.”

Holland added that completing the transition is “the thing that I want to do most” with the character.

Could Miles Morales Take the Spider-Man Mantle?

During the interview, host Josh Horowitz suggested Miles Morales as Peter Parker’s possible successor. First introduced in the comics in 2011, the character has featured prominently in recent Spider-Man video games and led two successful animated films. So far, however, his presence in the MCU has only been broadly hinted at.

“We all want to see Miles at some point, Miles Morales,” Horowitz said.

Holland deftly avoided offering any clues about who the next Spider-Man might be, instead simply emphasizing that a plan exists. However, he previously told Empire that he wanted to help introduce the next web-head.

“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” he said in May.

Some fans have pushed back against the idea of Miles directly replacing Peter, arguing that “Spider-Man is Peter Parker, and Miles Morales is Miles Morales.” Nevertheless, Holland appears eager to help guide whichever character follows him.

The actor compared that potential relationship to his own experience working with Robert Downey Jr., whose Tony Stark served as a mentor to Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“If I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” Holland said.

Holland Is Keeping His Distance From Hollywood

Holland’s desire to prepare a successor also fits with his increasingly candid comments about fame and the entertainment industry.

Earlier this year, the actor explained that he deliberately avoids unnecessary red carpets and industry events because he wants to maintain a relatively normal life.

“I really am a massive fan of making movies, but I really do not like Hollywood; it is not for me, and the business genuinely scares me,” he said.

For now, Holland remains firmly attached to the role. Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks his fourth solo movie and seventh MCU appearance as Peter Parker. Nevertheless, his comments indicate that he does not want his eventual departure to be abrupt. If Holland gets his way, Spider-Man’s next chapter will begin before his own has completely ended.
