‘Wonder Man’ Added to Hulu and YouTube After Disney+ Nielsen Ratings Bomb

Wonder Man has been added to Hulu for a limited time and its premiere episode was added to YouTube for free. The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) dropped all eight half-hour episodes on Disney+ at the end of January. By its second week, the series had dropped out of Nielsen’s top ten. According to Cosmic Book News, the No. 10 show that week logged 332 million minutes watched, meaning Wonder Man fell short of that.

The move to place Wonder Man on Hulu suggests Disney may be trying to generate renewed interest in the once-dominant MCU.

Wonder Man’s Disney+ Debut

The Nielsen data was supported by figures from the viewership-tracking firm Luminate. According to the firm, Wonder Man generated 549.6 million minutes watched in its first 10 days on Disney+. In comparison, Daredevil: Born Again tracked 629.4 million minutes in its first 10 days, with just three episodes available. The first three episodes of Agatha: All Along—which faced widespread online criticism—generated 377 million minutes in their first nine days.

Putting Wonder Man on Hulu is not the only part of Disney’s marketing push. On March 3, the first episode was uploaded to YouTube. The video description directs viewers to watch the rest of the series on Disney+, with no mention of Hulu. At the time of writing, the YouTube video has roughly 154,000 views.

While Hulu and Disney+ operate under the same corporate umbrella, the two services are not expected to fully merge until late 2026. This means that there is not full audience overlap. Making Wonder Man available on Hulu allows Disney to keep the show in-house and still draw a new potential audience. The “for a limited time” phrasing may be intended to create a sense of urgency. However, the initial ratings drop suggests Disney+ audiences did not respond strongly to that sense of urgency.

Whether or not Hulu subscribers respond differently to Wonder Man remains to be seen. More importantly, pressure is building around the MCU. After many recent Marvel projects received low engagement, even Wonder Man matters.

How Wonder Man Fits into the Big Picture

2026 is a significant year for the MCU. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters this December. The film’s budget is believed to be massive. In order for the film to be a financial success, the entire MCU needs to help build momentum. The previous year’s Marvel films, Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World, and Fantastic Four: First Steps, all fell below box office expectations. Many—if not most—of the Disney+ shows proved divisive.

Wonder Man, however, received a generally favorable response from those who watched it. Some online commentators who have been critical of recent Marvel projects praised its smaller-scale storytelling and light-hearted tone. Additionally, Wonder Man currently holds a 63% score from 33 users on the audience-driven review site Criticless.

While Wonder Man is not expected to appear in the already massive Doomsday cast, the character still represents the larger brand.

Quality, Quantity, and the Audience

Ultimately, the primary issue for the MCU may not be availability. Putting Wonder Man on Hulu will only matter if audiences choose it among the many available options. Wonder Man’s initially low Disney+ viewership may not reflect the show’s quality. If audiences have grown weary of Marvel’s expanding slate, simply making Wonder Man easier to find may not be enough to reverse the trend.
