As Disney prepares to release Avengers: Doomsday this December, questions are rising about the future of the MCU. Fans are wondering which characters will continue and which will be shelved. She-Hulk actress Tatiana Maslany was recently asked about returning to Marvel. Her answer was telling.
“I don’t know,” Maslany said. “I think people would be so mad at me being on their screens again.”
Many viewed the remark as a surprising acknowledgment of the show’s polarizing effect on audiences. It also suggests that She-Hulk was not the success Disney’s marketing may have implied.
Questions About She-Hulk’s Future in the MCU
Maslany was promoting her Apple TV+ series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast. When asked if She-Hulk might return to the MCU, Maslany suggested a second season would only work with original showrunner and lead writer Jessica Gao involved.

“I think it would take somebody like Jessica Gao to weave her into that world because she knows that character so deeply and loves her and gets her tone, but there’s something about She-Hulk being the star of her own show that makes sense. Do you know what I mean?” she said. “Because of the direct address, she is our narrator. So, I think it would be a real cool challenge to see her in some other context, but I do think like the sort of joy of She-Hulk is in the singularness of it.”
Critics argue the tone was one of the show’s most divisive elements. Many fans criticized what they saw as bizarre humor, a cringeworthy twerking scene, weak storytelling, and political messaging. Like the comics, the series leaned heavily on fourth-wall-breaking meta-humor. Some viewers appreciated the device. Yet many others rejected it.
The show was not renewed for a second season. After the cancellation, Maslany blamed “toxic fans” for She-Hulk’s poor reception and eventual demise.

As Disney and Marvel attempt to reunify audiences, a possible return for She-Hulk could present challenges. The character has largely disappeared from current and upcoming MCU projects. After Jimmy Kimmel used his late-night platform to make controversial comments about the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, Disney briefly suspended him. During that period, Maslany urged followers on social media to cancel their Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions.

Ultimately, after a failed television series and sustained public backlash, She-Hulk may not return to the MCU anytime soon—at least not with Tatiana Maslany in the lead role. Disney could view her involvement as a potential distraction for future Avengers projects.
Earlier this year, Maslany claimed Disney approached her about returning as She-Hulk for Avengers: Secret Wars, but that she declined the offer. However, no official confirmation of that claim was ever provided.
Several post-Avengers: Endgame projects struggled to connect with audiences. Yet in comic books, few characters stay gone forever. Maslany’s latest comments suggest she remains open to revisiting the role. At the same time, they reflect an understanding that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law generated more debate than enthusiasm.
