‘She-Hulk’ Star Claims Marvel Wanted Her Back—The Evidence Tells a Different Story

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Season 1 Rotten Tomatoes Score

MyTimeToShineHello, an X account noted for film industry leaks, claims that Marvel wanted She-Hulk to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. The follow-up to this December’s Avengers: Doomsday will likely expand an already massive cast of returning MCU heroes and villains. However, Tatiana Maslany reportedly has no interest in working with Disney.

This seems to back up remarks Maslany recently made on the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast. According to ComicBookMovie, she said, “Disney has approached me to play She-Hulk again. Guys, I said no. Because I just did. This is the facts.” She added, “They really wanted me to be in Doomsday, Avengers-style, or whatever. I turned them down. I’m confirming it here.”

However, there is a strong case to be made that Disney isn’t interested in working with Maslany either.

Did Disney Really Want Tatiana Maslany Back?

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law debuted on Disney+ in August 2022 and did not appear on Nielsen’s Top 10 in its first week. While the series was well received by critics, audiences objected to what felt like overt political messaging. On Rotten Tomatoes the show received a rotten 32%, and on Criticless it has a 13% Heinous rating with 43 voters.

The show was not renewed for a second season, with Maslany saying, “I think we blew our budget and Disney was like, ‘No thanks.’” After the show was officially cancelled, Maslany blamed “toxic fans” for She-Hulk’s poor reception and ultimate demise.

However, that may not have been enough to disqualify her from future work in the MCU. A rumor circulated in March 2025 that Maslany would return as She-Hulk in Avengers: Doomsday. Given that the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, said in 2018 that he’d like to see “more than half” of the heroes in the MCU be female, many felt the rumors were plausible.

But last September, Maslany urged Disney+ subscribers to turn away from the platform that had hired her. During Jimmy Kimmel’s brief suspension for his remarks regarding the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, Maslany publicly joined the boycott of Disney+. Over a behind-the-scenes photo from She-Hulk, the actress wrote: “Cancel your @disneyplus @hulu @espn subscriptions!”

After being openly antagonistic toward fans, Disney may fear that Maslany could drive them away from Avengers projects. But after her remarks during the Kimmel fallout, Disney may not want her back. In light of that, Maslany’s recent remarks could be a classic case of, “You can’t fire me—I quit.”

Still, if Disney does want She-Hulk to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, without Maslany, there is a path forward.

Secret Wars Offers Marvel an Exit Strategy

Though rare, Marvel has recast characters. Notably, Mark Ruffalo took over Bruce Banner/the Hulk from Edward Norton. If Secret Wars follows the 2015 comic run of the same name, any change in appearance could be easily explained as a multiverse variant.

Marvel could still recoup its investment in bringing the niche character to public awareness without having to deal with Maslany. However, outcry from Maslany’s defenders could be severe, which would put Disney in a difficult position, though the effect it would have on ticket sales is debatable.

Audiences will likely never know whether Disney truly wanted She-Hulk—and Maslany—to appear in Secret Wars. However, given how divisive both the character’s introduction and the actress herself became, Marvel’s decision to quietly distance itself from the controversy may be as much about risk management as storytelling. As the studio looks to reunite fans and reset the franchise, it will be increasingly selective about which faces—and which baggage—it brings onto the screen.

Comic Book She Hulk from inception till ~mid 90s? Fine. Current Marvel and MCU version of She Hulk? How much money does Disney have to lose?

Bringing back any of the “Marvels”, this chick, and almost anything from Phase 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU TV stuff will be a loser. But clearly TV and Movie studios still haven’t learned their lesson.

CleatusDefeatus

marvel is dead. star wars is dead. dc is dead. trek is dead. There ain’t no magical Dr Frankenstein out there to resuscitate these Abby Normal corpses.

devilman013

Evidently not. The latest Doomsday trailer focuses on the Wakandans, like anyone still cares about them.

CleatusDefeatus

who?

Mad Lemming

Oh, lord. Is this bitch still trying to be relevant? She had her chance to salvage something out of She-Hulk and instead she dropped several grenades on her foot with her vitriol and arrogance. Even Disney won’t hire her because she’s absolute poison. And right now Mouse House’s bottom line is already dying from woke toxicity.

CleatusDefeatus

They’re just so…….. insufferable.

devilman013

I don’t doubt that Disney might have wanted her back. Both she and that company are POS’s, and they deserve each other.

But I will not watch anything that She-Hulk appears in, never mind anything that she has a major role in. What little of She-Hulk I saw was enough to last me a lifetime.

Nobody wants more Tatiana Mostslovenly/Shit-Hulk.
