An image supposedly revealing a new Avengers: Doomsday tie-in with Doritos is going viral across social media. Unfortunately, Marvel fans hoping to find the chips pictured in the post are going to be disappointed.
The viral image shared by the Movie News account on X promised snackers Doctor Doom’s “Latverian Jalapeño,” a Fantastic Four-flavored “Fantastic White Cheddar,” Thor’s “Smoked Sriracha,” Steve Rogers’ “Brooklyn Sweet BBQ,” Yelena’s “Habanero Hot Sauce,” and an X-Men “Uncanny Honey BBQ.”

Arguably, the first clue that these are not authentic products is the character selection. Of the Fantastic Four, only Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards is featured on the Doritos bag. The increasingly controversial actor’s role in Doomsday was seemingly minimized in early marketing. It also seems odd that only one member of the foursome would appear. Similarly, the “Uncanny Honey BBQ” bag features only James Marsden’s Cyclops.

And would anyone really be excited to try “Captain Shirtpants‘ Brooklyn Sweet BBQ”?
However, this is one of those unusual cases where the fake is surprisingly close to reality—just not for North American shoppers.
Real Avengers: Doomsday Snacks Are Appearing in the UK
Marvel Studios and PepsiCo really are teaming up for an Avengers: Doomsday promotion. Characters from the upcoming movie are reportedly featured on bags of Cheetos and other popular UK snacks.
According to The Direct, specially branded Cheetos packaging has been spotted featuring Doctor Doom, Mystique, and the Human Torch.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom appears on a bag of Salted Toffee Cheetos, while Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique can be found on Cheese Spirals. Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch appropriately appears surrounded by flames on Pizza Cheetos.
The promotion extends beyond Cheetos.
PepsiCo-owned Wotsits and Quavers are also receiving Avengers: Doomsday packaging. Doctor Doom appears on Wotsits Bag of Bones, while Anthony Mackie’s Captain America is featured on Really Cheesy Wotsits. Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova appears on Quavers.
Kelsey Grammer’s Beast has even received his own package of Wotsits Crunchy Really Meaty.

The genuine packaging helps explain why the fake Doritos image was so easy to believe. Both promotions pair individual Marvel heroes with different flavors while using Doomsday branding and character artwork prominently on the bags. Without comparing the viral image against officially available products, the distinction would be easy to miss.
For the uninitiated, Wotsits are supposedly similar to Cheetos Puffs. Meanwhile, the lower-calorie Quavers seemingly have no direct U.S. equivalent. In addition to cheese, they are also available in Prawn Cocktail and Salt & Vinegar flavors.
Fake Doomsday Merchandise Is Getting Harder to Spot
The confusion surrounding the viral post illustrates how difficult it has become to separate authentic movie marketing from fabricated material online.

In this case, the image was believable precisely because an extremely similar Avengers: Doomsday promotion actually exists. Adding to the confusion, other posts from the Movie News account have featured images of additional Avengers: Doomsday tie-ins—some real and others manufactured.
Marvel fans therefore shouldn’t expect to find the exact Doritos packaging currently circulating in the viral post. However, anyone living in the United Kingdom or other participating European markets may still encounter something remarkably similar in the snack aisle.
