Thunderbolts Projected to Lose $100 Million in Epic Marvel Flop Despite High Audience Score

Thunderbolts is projected to become a major flop for Marvel, losing upwards of $100 million.

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts was supposed to be a return to form — a morally grey, character-driven ensemble film featuring beloved anti-heroes like Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier. With a high-octane cast and a more grounded, espionage-style narrative, the film promised to reinvigorate a sagging Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, it’s crashing harder than expected — and it may be about to cost Disney over $100 million.

The Texas House of Representatives voted 114–26 on Monday to approve Senate Bill 22 (SB 22), a sweeping measure that allocates $300 million in film and television production incentives every other year for the next decade. We’ve seen a lot of talk about AI and the effect it will have on entertainment in general and actors in particular. We hear about, for just one of many examples, James Earl Jones and his family making the deal to AI his voice resulting in some more-than-interesting stuff going on in Fortnite if you ask the right (or is it wrong?) questions. And we’ve seen the SAG/AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Actors as they once were and merged) efforts to enforce their contracts get represented as affecting those bigshot players and their deals.

Video footage from the Avengers Doomsday set made the rounds online this week after a fan snuck into the supposedly secure filming location.

Earlier this month, the Marvel Universe suffered its worst security breach in recent memory.  A man under the TikTok handle @TheyNeverSawItComing pulled his very own “Mission Impossible” and was able to breach the mighty Marvel machine by sneaking onto the set of Avengers: Doomsday at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England.

He then uploaded all of the unauthorized Avengers: Doomdday set video footage on TikTok, as one does.
