As reported by Deadpool Updates on X, Levy revealed that the film takes place six years after Deadpool 2. He also shared, “He’s proving to be useless at selling cars, hawking Blind Al’s blood-pressure meds to make rent, and his beloved Vanessa has a new boyfriend.”

Vanessa was killed at the beginning of Deadpool 2 and the original plan was for her to stay dead, but after test audiences reacted negatively to her being killed, director David Leitch reshot a scene that left the door open for Vanessa being alive.

Baccarin explained this to SyFy in March 2022, “”I feel like I got a call from David Leitch one day and he was just like: ‘You know, your [scenes] with Ryan are testing so well in this movie, and people are getting so upset [online] that she’s dead, so we’re gonna have to leave the door open for her to possibly come back.”

Levy also informed Total Film that there were discussions about which topics would be off topic for the film. He told the outlet, “I’m so wary of what I can say but certainly there were early conversations about overt drug use.”

“And we thought that was an interesting conversation. Let’s actually write a dialogue scene about having had it.” he added.

In fact, in one of the film’s trailers Blind Al asks Deadpool, “Want to do some cocaine?” Deadpool responds, “Hey! Cocaine is the one thing that Feige said is off limits.” Blind Al then questions, “What about Bolivian marching powder?” Deadpool replies, “They know all the slang terms. They have a list.” The two go back and forth listing terms such as snowboarding, disco dust, white girl interrupted, forrest bump, and do you want to build a snowman.”

According to a U.S. Copyright Office Public Records document the film will see Wade Wilson be “confronted by the TVA, which pulls him from a seemingly quiet life and results in Deadpool being unleashed.”

The film, which arrives in theaters on July 25th is currently tracking to bring in between $182 million and $214 million in its opening weekend according to Box Office Theory. The outlet further predicts the film will have a domestic total between $401 million and $514 million.

Shawn Robbins at Box Office Theory notes, “Pre-sales are also in an extended window here as Disney opened up availability two months before the film’s release, a longer period than usual for comic book and superhero films. With that in mind, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s initial pace over the first few weeks positions demand comparable to that of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse, well ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”

However, he does note that, “Sales are heavily focused on Thursday previews right now, but that’s par for the course with fan-driven Marvel films as sales will pick up closer to release.

He wrote on X, “Many big movies will open in May, June & July. Including Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Opens July 25. Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever.”

Fandango also reported, “In its first 24 hours of pre-sales Deadpool & Wolverine sold more tickets than any R-rated film in Fandango history.”
