Wednesday Season 2 Trailer

Netflix has unveiled a second trailer for Wednesday Season 2, and this time it’s somewhat better. Where the first trailer leaned on tonal irony and visual spectacle, this seems to embrace the Gothic drama.

Back in April, I reviewed the first trailer and its uneasy blend of pop quirk and Gothic cosplay. The needle drop of “My Favorite Things” as the background music felt completely and utterly wrong. It looked like Wednesday was veering off course, leaning into Netflix’s algorithm more than its own weirdness.

This new trailer paints a different picture. The tone is heavier, the stakes are clearer, and the mysteries are finally starting to connect.

But it’s still not The Addams Family as they should be.

A Departure from Tradition

This new trailer for Wednesday Season 2 introduces a new character: a mysterious older woman who’s portrayed as harsh and proud. According to the official Wednesday show account on X, this woman is Grandmama Addams.

But don’t expect the warm, whimsical grandmother who spoils the kids and quietly supports the family behind the scenes. This Grandmama is a stern, commanding matriarch, the woman in charge, setting a far darker and more authoritarian tone than any previous incarnation.

It’s a significant departure from the character’s traditional role as the sweet eccentric who brings levity and odd wisdom to the Addams household. This new take positions Grandmama as a driving force behind the family’s darker mysteries and Wednesday’s journey—more disciplinarian than doting grandma.

This shift may be jarring for some longtime Addams fans. It raises questions about how much the series is willing to reshape beloved characters in the name of tonal reinvention, and whether it risks losing the heart that made the Addams family so enduring.

Moreover, Season 2 continues to build on the Netflix-original concept that Wednesday inherited psychic powers from Morticia—a significant deviation from any prior Addams Family iteration. In this trailer, Wednesday’s visions come with black tears and an image of Enid’s gravestone, with Enid’s ghost telling Wednesday, “I die because of you.”

This seems to be an introduction to the plot and the murder mystery that Jenna Ortega said she was going to bring to the show. It’s pretty straightforward: Find the killer before Enid is killed. However, Wednesday shouldn’t be the type to feel guilty over someone’s death. That too feels like a deviation from The Addams Family proper.

The Gaga Mystery: Still No Face, But Plenty of Knives

Now let’s address the glaring presence that’s supposed to be there but isn’t. Lady Gaga is still missing from the trailers. No shots, no hints, nor credits. Yet her casting is confirmed and the singer herself has commented on her mystery role in the show. So where is she?

Well, someone is stalking the halls in a dramatic mask and possibly leaving bodies in their wake. Combine that with the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack choice (which is significantly better than “My Favorite Things”), the theatrical tone of the editing, and the fact that Gaga’s entire public persona is built on campy horror couture—and you can’t help but wonder if that masked figure is her.

That, at least, is my current theory.

If she is the masked figure, it would be a fittingly theatrical—but potentially distracting—choice. As I said in my review of the previous trailer, Gaga’s larger-than-life presence risks overshadowing the story, turning the mystery into a celebrity stunt rather than a character-driven reveal. Whether she’s the true villain or a red herring, her role will need careful handling to avoid tipping the balance too far into spectacle.

Again, star power cuts both ways. If she’s too central, it risks turning Wednesday into a celebrity showcase. If used sparingly—and surgically—it might be one of the smarter casting moves Netflix has pulled.

Still Addams… or Something Else?

So is this still Wednesday? Is this still The Addams Family?

Honestly, that’s difficult to answer. This Wednesday Season 2 trailer is darker than the previous, more Gothic, and the underlying symphony of Phantom of the Opera feels right for the tone. But the characters, especially Grandmama, just don’t seem like themselves anymore.

For now, we will have to wait for the August release of Season 2 Part One to find out just how much things have changed.

I can’t believe that face passes as “attractive”.? nowadays. To hell with Farrah Fawcett, let’s take the black eyed, black haired, nondescript, pig face for boys to fantasize about. Flo Pughke. That chick in the last Indy. That ugly ass ginger from stranger thangs. Whole lotta ugly out there right now.

Didn’t watch the first season, won’t watch this. Avoiding Netflix abominations is a good strategy for life.
