Halle Bailey Speaks on ‘The Little Mermaid’ Backlash — Variety Reframes Comments to Attack Fans

Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid proved divisive. At the center of much of the debate was Halle Bailey, the young actress cast as Ariel. Three years later, she sat down with The Independent to discuss the experience and the support she received behind the scenes from other actresses who have also faced online hostility.

X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo has had a long feud with Disney and Marvel Studios after being fired as director of the superhero series right before its premiere on Disney+. Gina Carano Calls Out Lucasfilm, Disney Over Apparent Co-Opting of “Welcome to the Rebellion” Slogan

On Wednesday, former Mandalorian star Gina Carano highlighted a striking similarity between a new marketing slogan for Andor Season 2 and one of her own previous tweets. OPINION: Let’s Go Out To The Movies!!!! (Or Maybe NOT!)—Confused Movie Theaters Just Got More Confused

Believe it or not, in their misguided quest to find new ways to entice customers back into movie houses the exhibitors are getting more and more crazed and deluded.

I mentioned in my previous piece how it wasn’t the “aeroplanes” of screen size, sound, or “exclusive windows” before they go online or other enhancements that killed the movie biz but the lack of “beauty” in the crummy movies themselves.

But now, it seems, something new has been added to the mix of mayhem: MINECRAFT is spurring a whole new round of in-theater antics thanks to that dubious ChiCom gift to the world called TikTok.

Harry Potter Missing from Universal UK Theme Park Plans—But There May Be a Reason Why

One of the most puzzling omissions from Universal Studios’ newly announced UK theme park is arguably its most globally recognized franchise: Harry Potter. With a 476-acre resort now confirmed for Bedfordshire, just an hour north of London, and concept art revealing lands potentially tied to Jurassic Park, Shrek, and Back to The Future, fans were quick to notice what wasn’t there—and that’s Hogwarts.

OPINION: Disney’s Grand Mistake at the Grand Floridian—Upcoming Renovation Will Add a Bar and Remake Iconic Lobby Into Bland Floridian at Walt Disney World

This week, Disney Parks Blog released new concept art and design plans for a reimagined Grand Floridian Resort lobby. The changes are being sold as a “refurbishment,” a light refresh meant to breathe new life into the resort. But what’s really happening is far more insidious: Disney is dismantling one of its most elegant, timeless spaces and replacing it with something entirely ordinary that’s soaked in alcohol.

OPINION: What’s going on with Hasbro? It’s a Toy Company That Doesn’t Want to Make Toys

OPINION: What’s going on with Hasbro? It’s a Toy Company That Doesn’t Want to Make Toys

Per Hasbro’s CEO Chris Cocks, they have announced that as of 2025 they will be moving away from physical toys while focusing more on digital play (i.e. video games). Since that time we’ve paradoxically seen one of the largest toymakers in the world begin to license out their properties to other toymakers to produce.

I’m not the CEO of a multi-million dollar company, so it may not be my place to say, but as a toy collector I feel that this is a mis-step on the part of Hasbro and its CEO. At the same time, unfortunately I can understand why they feel forced to go this route, and it has to do with both the mistakes they have made as well as those of their partners.
